New COVID-19 test sites open to ease long lines at emergency care facilities

Several new COVID-19 test sites will open on Long Island this week to ease the long lines surrounding emergency care facilities.

Starting Tuesday, Northwell Health will operate drive-thru test sites at Christopher Morley Park in Roslyn and Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead.

Community test sites are also being set up at the former Babies R Us in Bohemia and at 1 Marcus Ave. in New Hyde Park.

New York State-run test sites will open in Hauppauge and Hempstead on Wednesday.

Suffolk County is also opening sites with variable hours, although one will not start operating until next week.

“I recognize the frustration parents feel when trying to find tests for their children and for themselves,” says Dr. Matthew Harris of Northwell Health.

Harris says some patients are now presenting to the emergency room looking for tests. He says they should instead visit the new sites that are opening up.

“Northwell and other members of the community are stepping up testing. They will become more widely available and hopefully test results will be released sooner, ”adds Harris.

Suffolk County and state-operated sites will be walk-in, but Northwell-operated sites are by appointment only.
