Yes is no at the Grammys Awards show in Las Vegas
The Grammys are going to have to succeed on the Strip without Kanye West.
The show’s first performance in Las Vegas will not include West. The mercurial rap superstar was told Friday night that he was banned from performing at the ceremony despite his five nominations, including album of the year for ‘Donda’.
Grammys officials reportedly acted on West’s recent “online activity regarding” as the reason he won’t perform at the April 3 show at the MGM Grand Garden. The show will air live on CBS at 5 p.m. from the Grand Jardin. The show is also available live and on demand on Paramount+
The Blast initially reported West’s ban from the show, with the rapper’s reps confirming its accuracy to multiple outlets. The Blast further reported, “Our sources say Kanye’s team is not surprised by the decision.” The move comes following West’s temporary ban from Instagram after he used a racial slur in a post to ‘Daily Show’ host Trevor Noah.
This post was deleted, but West’s IG account was closed and he was not allowed to post, DM or comment on the platform (as of today, West’s page has 15.7 million likes followers, over 7,400 “followers” and no posts).
Noah is also the host of this year’s Grammy Awards. During “The Daily Show,” the comedian weighed in on West’s public feud with his ex-wife Kim Kardashian and “SNL” cast member rock davidson.
Noah accused West of “harassing” Kardashian on social media and via text, commenting on Tuesday’s show, “What she’s going through is terrifying to watch, and it highlights what so many women go through when they choose to leave”. Noah said in part on his Comedy Central show on Tuesday.
“What we’re seeing is one of the most powerful women, one of the richest women in the world, unable to get her ex to stop texting her, to stop chasing her, to stop harass.”
Noah is also a headliner on the Strip, most recently at the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas. He previously appeared in the Aces of Comedy series at the Mirage.
West was not on the roster for the Las Vegas show announced by the Grammys on Tuesday. The first round of names includes Osborne Brothers, BTS, Brandi Carlile, Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X with Jack Harlow and Olivia Rodrigo. There are also unconfirmed reports that Sonic Silk will perform his ode to Las Vegas, “777”, during the show. The retro R&B/funk production is in residence at Park MGM’s Dolby Live.
It really is Ludacris
50 cents and Ludacris graced Drai’s Nightclub on Friday and Saturday. Ludacris performed Friday on the Drai’s Live stage, a full show seasoned with “My Chick Bad” and “How Low.” Ludacris played the first show of the year at Drai’s Beachclub on Saturday, rolling out “What’s Your Fantasy” and “Act a Fool.”
50 Cent headlining is the first show of the year on Saturday at Drai’s Nightclub, livening up the room with “Disco Inferno” and “In Da Club.”
Drai’s Beachclub is now open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday through April and will open daily from May.
What we learned…
– “Mad Apple” in New York-New York has an extreme-dunk team. As in, diving basketballs. This crew was part of St. Baldrick’s shave-a-thon on Sunday at the Brooklyn Bridge at Nine Fine Irishmen.
Under the name of Acro Dunkers, the guys are Raymond Butler, Balint Hiszar and Levente Pal. This act is one of six in rotation for the Cirque’s new show which will open on May 12. Ah, and Butler agreed to shave his head for charity.
— Carefree in Vegas making noise (as it often does) about a residency in Las Vegas. Michael Shapiro’s three-man band rocks classic Vegas tunes. RiV recently joined the Kelly Clinton-Holmes Friday Night Show at the Stirling Club. The show marked the first time at the royal club that a Led Zeppelin song was performed. “Whole Lotta Love” crushed with “The Beat Goes On”.
cool hang alert
The music of Chicago (the band) is paired with Chicago pizza this week at Monday’s Dark at The Space. “Deep Dish & Crime” is the title, which starts at 8 p.m. We are planning horns and even group choreography.
